This is a blue and white meat drainer that is transfer printed with an Asiatic pattern consisting of pagodas, a rider on an elephant, an urn and flowers. It is unsigned, so I cannot ascribe a maker nor have I been able to find the name of the pattern. The piece appears to be pearlware as I can see some blue pooling of the glaze in the recess of the underlip. I would estimate that it dates to the earlier half of the 19th century c1810-1840, although I cant be precise about the dating. The piece is made in a rounded rectangular shape.
Size: 8 7/8 by 12 7/8
Condition: It is in very good condition, especially considering that this piece is about 200 years old, but it does have two repair areas to the edge of the piece (see last two close-up photos). They tried their best to reproduce the pattern along the edge, but this is obviously not original - I will say though that the repairs are not noticeable under normal viewing. In addition, there is a firing fissure to the edge and some glaze wear along the top edge on one side (see photos). Otherwise, there are no other noted defects to the piece and it presents itself very well as is.
This is an interesting drainer as the pattern does not appear to be common - a beautiful addition to a blue and white transferware collection.....
