This is an art deco era beer stein featuring a gentleman waving a hankie at a house with text underneath that reads Muss I Denn, Muss I Denn Zum Stadtle Hinaus Und Du Mein Schatz Bleibst Hier, which translates to I have to go out to the town and you, my darling, stay here. The text is taken from a 19th century folk song. The underside is simply hand marked with D1 2, so I cannot ascribe a maker. It is made of glazed stoneware with a pebbled finish and has an aluminum domed lid with thumb pull. It measures 4 3/4 in height without the lid, 5 3/4 to the top of the lid - the top part of the stein is stamped 0.5 L (1/2 litre). It is in very good condition with the exception of a bit of extra clay on the handle (see photo) and there is a tiny ding on the lid - no chips, cracks or weigh. It weighs 1 1/2 lbs.

Colourful illustration, nice display stein!
