This is a vintage cocktail hat made in a rather diminutive pillbox shape. The hat is made of black velvet with concentric rows of gunmetal within clear bugle beads. The hat has a beautiful full veil that is affixed to the interior top of the hat and covers the full face as well as a bit of the head at the back and sides. The opening measures 17" around, but this hat is designed to sit on the top of the head, so it should fit a range of small to medium sizes.
Age: late 1950s / early 1960s
Label: AMY New York. Frances Kleinfeld (1909-1974) and her husband, Walter Nelkin established a hat business during the 1930s, using "Frances and Walter Nelkin" as their label. It is purported that the Amy label was used for their more "popular priced line", but this is a very nice quality hat, so I'm not sure.
This is a gorgeous hat - beautiful quality and easy to wear....timeless design
