This is a wonderful brutalist belt signed by Montreal modernist jeweller Guy (Gilles) Vidal that I think could also be worn as a necklace.  It is made of pewter with electroplated silver and made up of alternating links, one a smaller rectangular shape and the other an abstract elongated shape - there are two other shapes at the closure.  It is signed on the closure hook with a stylized GV, which dates the piece to the 1960s.  The piece measures 35 1/4” around, exclusive of its hook.  It is in very good condition except for some wear/patina to the silver plating that just adds to the brutalist look of the piece.

Examples of Vidal’s work are difficult to come by, especially a larger sized piece like this - he and Robert Larin are two Canadian jewelry designers who worked in pewter and had similar designs during the 1960s and 70s....this is a very interesting piece....
