This is a wonderful piece of vintage West German pottery handmade by Ruscha in a jug or pitcher form. This form was originally designed by Kurt Tschner in 1954 along with shape 313. This example is marked 315 on the underside, similar to the 313 form, but with a flatter up angle handle and, while still bulbous, with less of a forward movement in the body. It is glazed in a textured white fat lava finish and hand decorated with a yellow grid that is outlined in black interspersed with small hand painted flowers. The piece measures about 9 in height to the top of the spout, about 10 1/2 in length from the back of the handle to the front of the body.about 9 1/2 in width across the body at its widest, and weighs 3 lbs and 7 oz. It is hand inscribed on the underside with Ruscha Handgemalt 315 - usually these are simply mold numbered, so a hand inscribed example is nice to have and I think may be an indication of a 1950s era piece. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or wear. This is a wonderful example of West German pottery - this shape is iconic and important in the history of West German pottery, sure to be a nice addition to a collection!
