This is a modernist design pendant on a chain sold by Tyr Sweden. Tyr was a brand name used by the Swedish company Birger Wicksell, which was a trading company. They would buy collections from noted pewter smiths, such as Borje Tennung and Kaj Fransson, and offer them under their Tyr brand name. The company was active from 1964 until the 1980s, so this piece probably dates either to the 60s or 70s.
This piece features round “mounds”, some hollow, some filled, on a rectangular plaque, affixed to its original chain. The pendant measures 3 3/4” in height and 1 3/4”in width at the bottom. The chain measures 13 1/2 inches (measured on one side as it is attached to the pendant). Together the height of the pendant and the chain is 17 1/2 inches in length.
It is in very good condition with no wear, scratching or other defect. The back is signed “Tyr Sweden”.
Interesting mid-century modern pendant - this was probably designed by a known Scandinavian designer…..
