Pair Antique Carl Teichert Meissen Porcelain Blue Onion Candlesticks
$120.00
Brand Etsy
This is a pair of candlesticks made by Carl Teichert of Meissen, Germany in the Blue Onion pattern. Teichert established his factory in 1863 as a tile producer - he died in 1871 but the manufactory continued and the Blue Onion pattern was produced by them up until 1930. Teichert should not be confused with the Royal Manufactory located in Meissen. Each is stamped simply with Meissen. I believe that this is an early Teichert mark as the mark normally seen is Meissen within an oval with a star underneath.
Each candlestick measures 6 1/2 in height with a base diameter of 5 3/4. Each is in very good condition except for two surface chips to the side base of one candlestick and one to the other candlestick (see last two close-up photos of the chips). Each has a filled core, I assume to plug the hole for use as a candleholder and to give them some weight, but for some reason one of the candlesticks is filled to the top while the other stops short, just enough to provide a cavity for a candle. Despite this, the candlesticks have beautiful form and decoration and display very well.
Nice pair of antique porcelain candlesticks, great additions to a Blue Onion collection!
