This is a rare cloud glass vase made by August Walther & Sohne of Radeberg, Germany in the Diana form, which features a footed flared body with turned rim. The colour of the glass is what Walther called "Malachit", which features violet toned "trails" of colour within a green coloured uranium glass base. This Malachit colour is also known as Topaz-Violet, similar to Davidsons Topaz-Briar, except that the green colour fluoresces under an ultra-violet light (see photos). The vase is made with a matte interior and under foot and gloss exterior - the area around the body under the turned rim is also matte, I assume because it would have been difficult to polish that area because of the rim (see photos). The Diana form vase was produced by Walther between 1932 and 1940 but it appears that Malachit was introduced in 1935.. The vase measures 9 1/2 in height (24 cm) and 7 1/4 in diameter across its top rim - it weighs 3 lbs and 9 oz. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or other notable defect, just a couple of white linear marks in the matte area under the rim (see close-up photo) - I havent tried to buff this, and it is really a minor consideration.
I havent found any other Walther Diana vases in Malachit so I believe that this is a fairly difficult to come by piece - of interest to Uranium glass collectors as well as cloud glass collectors, gorgeous in the right setting!
