This is a souvenir tie from the Festival of Britain. The Festival of Britain was held in 1951, six years after the end of WWII, with the aim of promoting British industry, arts and science at a time when Britain was recovering from the devastating effects of the war. It was also the centenary of the Great Exhibition of 1851. The tie is made of purple satin and silkscreened with an image of Big Ben, part of the Palace of Westminster. Underneath the image “Festival of Britain 1951” in printed in green. The necktie is in very good condition but does need a proper pressing (do not apply a hot iron or steam directly to this fabric). The tie measures 49 1/2” in length and has a width of 4 1/4” at its widest. This is a rare tie - great addition to a Festival of Britain collection!
