This is an excellent quality 100% pure cashmere intarsia cardigan sweater made in Scotland for Holt Renfrew of Canada. I believe that it dates to the early 1960s or perhaps the late 50s. It is made in a soft pink colour with a a floral patterning, I believe poppy flowers, in a deeper pink and white with touches of light green and blue. It is made with a V shaped neckline and has mid-forearm length sleeves. It has an twelve button front closure - the buttons are made of mother-of-pearl and you have the option of doing them up to the neck or leaving a neckline. The sweater is unlined and the opening, cuffs and bottom are ribbed.
Label: Made in Scotland Exclusively for Holt Renfrew in Canada by Ballantyne 100% Pure Cashmere - the cashmere is very soft, as you would expect with older Scottish cashmere. There is a second label that reads “This is an original Ballantyne Intarsia”.
Sizing: No size is indicated, and although the lady from whom this was acquired wore a medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 14” across, seam to seam
Sleeves: 18” from the shoulder seam
Sleeve inseam: 13”
Bust: 38” around, taken under the arms
Bottom: 23” around, unstretched, stretches out to 29” max - it has a ribbed bottom
Overall length: 18”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, holes or other defect - this has been well cared for over the years. I have laundered the sweater, so it is ready for use.
This is a lovely quality cashmere sweater - very pretty intarsia pattern against a soft pink colour, modern cashmere just doesn’t compare…..
