This is a 1970s vintage long sleeved shirt jacket made by BVD as part of their “Sport” line. The fabric is made in a plaid check. It has a long pointy collar, a button-down flapped pocket at either side of the chest and an eight button closure including a button and loop at the neck under the collar. It has black elasticized panels at the bottom and black elasticized sleeve cuffs. The fabric is made of a 100% cotton in a coarse linen type weave. I would describe the style as mod rockabilly - looks like something that a Bay City Roller would have worn.
Label: BVD Sport Made in Canada with a Touch of Taper. Wonderful period graphic of a man wearing sunglasses and a pointy collared shirt with an ascot.
Size: It is sized as an S (small) but please note the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the shirt and the stretch of the fabric into consideration:
Neck: 14 1/2”
Shoulders: 17” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 23” from the shoulder/sleeve seam to the end of the cuff
Sleeve inseam: 21”
Chest: 40” around, taken under the arms
Bottom: 29” around, stretches out to 36” due to elasticized panels
Overall length: 24”, measured flat
Condition: It is in excellent condition with the exception of a manufacturing defect to the second buttonhole (see last close-up photo), really not very noticeable with the button done up. Otherwise, crisp and clean with no pulls, snags, wear, tear, soiling or odour - this looks unused and was well kept over the years.
This is a wonderful 70s era shirt jacket - great style, sure to be noticed!
