This is a fabulous vintage velvet coat made by renowned Italian fashion designer Roberta di Camerino.  “Roberta” was actually Giuliana Camerino, who founded her fashion house in Venice in 1945.  She was known primarily for her velvet handbags, but also created coats and dresses.  Her clientele included Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Farrah Fawcett, but even Coco Chanel was an admirer and friend.

I believe that the coat dates to the early 70s.  It is made with a pointy collar with high set notched lapel, open neckline, five button closure and a flapped pocket at either side.  It is cut with a flare to a below the knee length.  The very fabric is very soft, quite luxurious to the touch, and printed in a geometric pattern that features triangles and lines in a striking orange, black and pale yellow colour palette.  The coat is fully lined in a black rayon fabric.

Label: Roberta di Camerino Made in Italy

Sizing: Size 48 is indicated on a label, but I think that this should fit a small to maybe medium size - please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders:  15” seam-to-seam

Sleeves:  22 1/2” from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam:  16”

Bust:  36” around

Waist: 32” around

Hips:  37” around

Length:  44”

Condition:  It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, stains or odors - the only problems are that there is a missing top button, which normally wouldn’t be used as it is at the base of the lapel, and a hole / tearing to the lining at the hemline that would just need a stitching, quite minor.  Otherwise, this looks like it saw little use and was well stored over the years.

This is a rare and wonderful Roberta di Camerino coat - gorgeous fabric and pattern, a must have for the fashion collector!
