This is vintage cookie jar made in the form of a bucket or pail by American Bisque, probably during the 1930s or 40s. The piece is unmarked but has the distinctive unglazed wedge feet that instantly identifies a piece as being made by American Bisque. It is finished in a tan brown glaze - there looks like the raised fittings" were painted overglaze as there is remnant paint. The pail is made to look like wood while the lid has a lattice finish with a rope-like finial. It has a sturdy metal handle. The piece measures 8 1/2 across its handles and has a height of about 8 1/2 to the top of lids finial. It is very heavy, weighing 5 lbs and 13 oz - the pottery is quite substantial. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks, just the aforementioned wear to the overpaint. This is an older example of an American Bisque cookie jar - nice addition to a collection!
