Vintage American Studio Art Glass Vase Leon Applebaum Signed

This is a vintage studio glass vase made by acclaimed glass artist Leon Applebaum. Leon Applebaum (b. 1945) was originally from Toledo, Ohio. After completing his BFA and MA, he moved to Sweden to study at Orrefors Glass School, then worked at Boda Glass for a year before moving back to the US to pursue an MFA in glass at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I think that this vase may be an earlier piece as the similarities to Swedish glass are present including the optically thick quality of the glass as well as the form of the vase. It is made of purple coloured glass with a blue swath of colour down one side of the vase. The underside is etch signed simply with Leon Applebaum. The vase measures 6 1/2 in height and about 5 3/4 in width and 3 5/8 in depth across its top. It weighs a little over 3 lbs. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or wear. Beautiful quality hand blown glass vase by a recognized American glass master!
