Vintage Hand Painted Carved Wood Wall Plaque J Roy St Jean Quebec Carving 21" +

This is a large hand carved wood wall plaque that is hand painted with a scene of a cabin in the country during the winter, a typical Quebec scene. The plaque is signed at the bottom right with J Roy St Jean. This is very well done with good dimensionality, obviously by someone with both talent and technique. It is difficult to date, but does have the look of a piece from the 1920-1930s period. The piece measures 9 1/4 in height by 21 3/8 in width and has a thickness of 1 3/8 - this is a substantial piece of wood weighing 2 lbs and 10 oz. There is a metal hook on the back to enable hanging on a wall. It is in very good condition with the exception of some surface paint loss in a few places in the background and a bit of scratching or varnish loss in the border (see last close-up photo). This is a wonderful Quebec wood carving, perfect display for a country decor!
