This is a lovely choker necklace made by quality jeweller Marcel Boucher (1898-1964).
Boucher had his early training at Cartier in Paris, and then in New York. He started his costume jewelry business in 1937. When Dior introduced his “New Look” fashion in 1947, Boucher began to design elegant parures to match the return to elegance during the late 40s and through to the 60s.
This choker is signed on the centre backside with “©Boucher” and with the number 5872 - very difficult to read as it is lightly stamped, but I’ve seen another piece exactly like this that was legible. The copyright symbol dates the piece post-1955, but I believe that the inventory number dates it prior to 1960. The front is made in a “bow” shape with a dangling “diamond”. The bow shape measures 3” in width and the choker measures 15 1/2” in length laid out straight, but can be adjusted smaller is desired. It is in very good condition with no wear or repairs - this is a very nicely preserved piece of excellent quality.
This is a wonderful collectible costume piece by master jeweller Marcel Boucher - gorgeous choker!
