Vintage 1940s Scarf by Glentex 34” Square Honey Fashions

$120.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a vintage 1940s scarf made by Glextex.  Glentex was a trademark filed in 1939 by Honey Fashions Ltd, Glensder Textile Co.  They had a relationship during the 1940s and 50s with Elsa Schiaparelli, producing scarves with her designs.  This vintage 1940s scarf features an intricate design in a soft, but vibrant, colour palette in tones of purple, pink, lime, pale blue and black against white.  The medallion in the centre of the scarf takes inspiration from the type of stained glass window seen in cathedrals.  Surrounding the central motif are arched panels, each containing an illustration of a Chinese woman or women sitting beneath a tree.  The scarf edge is hand rolled to the back

Label: by Glentex.  This is definitely an early label

Fabric:  Silky, but I think that this may be a “cold rayon”, which was a type of semi-synthetic rayon that was tightly woven and provided a cool sensation to the skin.  It has good drape and was popular from the 1930s through to the 1950s

Size: 33” by 35”

Condition: This vintage 1940s scarf is in very good condition with no pronounced wear or tear or odour, but there is a small brownish mark near the edge in one place (visible in the last photo).  I did not steam or iron the scarf so some creasing is evident in the photos.  Otherwise, this vintage 1940s scarf looks like it was well stored over the years.

This is a lovely vintage 1940s scarf- wonderful design!
