Vintage 1950s Homburg Hat Woodrow Piccadilly England 7 1/8

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a beautiful quality vintage 1950s homburg hat in a deep blue colour, almost black.  The lining bears the Woodrow Piccadilly London brand mark that reads “By Appointment Hatters to the Late King George VI “ and with the retailer’s name “Marks Mens Wear 957 St. James Street W Montreal Que”.  George VI died on February the 6th, 1952, so this probably dates shortly after that.  This vintage 1950s homburg hat is of excellent quality - J Woodrow was a Stockport based manufacturer with multiple retail locations.  They merged with Battersby in the mid-1950s.  The inventory ticket under the sweatband of this vintage 1950s homburg hat states that it is a size 7 1/8.   This hat is made in a classic homburg form with turned rim covered in grosgrain and crown wrapped in dark blue grosgrain ribbon.  The homburg measures 22 3/4” around the opening and 6 1/2” by 8” across the opening.  The brim measures 2 1/2” in width at the front and back and 2 1/4” at the sides.  The crown measures 5” in height.  This vintage 1950s homburg hat is in very good condition except that it is missing its sweatband and there is a bit of felt writing on the plastic covering the top liner.  Otherwise, it is quite clean - replace the sweatband and you will have a gorgeous 1950s English homburg.  This is a beautiful quality vintage 1950s homburg hat, wonderful form in an attractive colour - Woodrow hats are not common!
