Vintage 1980s Faux Fur Coat w Polka Dots Jean-Claude Poitras

This is a 1980s faux fur coat, designed by Jean-Claude Poitras and made in an oversized style in a black polka dotted red faux fur fabric. This 1980s faux fur coat is made in an oversized swing style, with large shoulder pads and dolman style sleeves.  It closes with a plastic button and leather loop and a hook and eye at the neck - the rest of the front has no closures and simply folds over from right to left.  It has a black faux fur collar and the coat is fully lined in black satin.  There is a black leather trimmed slash pocket at either side.

Label: Jean-Claude Poitras Design.  Poitras opened his Poitras Design company in 1987, issuing his first women’s wear line in 1988.  In 1990, he merged his company with Irving Samuel - the partnership only lasted until 1995.  I think, due to the style of the piece and the history of Poitras design, that this coat dates just to around 1988-1989.  Jean-Claude Poitras was quite prolific, designing under his own labels, and also for Montreal manufacturers Beverini, Auckie Sanft as well as Irving Samuel.  Jean-Claude Poitras is the recipient of numerous design awards, the Order of Canada and the subject of a retrospective at the McCord Museum of Montreal.

Fabric:  47% cotton / 53% acrylic

Sizing: Size 6 is indicated on this 1980s faux fur coat, but this is a vintage sizing and the coat is made in an oversized style - it probably would fit a  large size, but please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 22” across the shoulder pads

Sleeves: 20” from the shoulder pad / 33” from the mid-neck to the cuff

Sleeve inseam: 18 1/4”

Bust: 60” around, taken under the arms, meant to be oversized and fall loosely

Waist:  70” around

Hemline:  122” around - wide flare

Overall length:  41”, measured flat

Condition:  This 1980s faux fur coat is in excellent condition with no stains, odour, tear or wear - this has been well cared for.
