Vintage 1980s Jean-Claude Poitras Faux Leopard Fur Jacket

This is a late 1980s Jean-Claude Poitras faux leopard fur jacket coat, made in a sculptured style - oversized upper with a fitted lower. This 1980s Jean-Claude Poitras faux leopard fur jacket is made with dolman-style sleeves formed with wedge seams at the underarm, giving it a sculptural, voluminous upper silhouette that tapers to a more fitted lower body.  It closes with six imitation leather plastic buttons and has a narrow standing black vinyl collar with matching vinyl flap details at the hip (note: these are decorative only — there are no pockets beneath).  This 1980s Jean-Claude Poitras faux leopard fur jacket is fully lined with a black quilted lining.

Label: Jean-Claude Poitras.  Poitras opened his Poitras Design company in 1987, issuing his first women’s wear line in 1988.  In 1990, he merged his company with Irving Samuel - the partnership only lasted until 1995.  I think, due to the style of the piece and the history of Poitras design, that this coat dates just to around 1988-1989.  Jean-Claude Poitras was quite prolific, designing under his own labels, and also for Montreal manufacturers Beverini, Auckie Sanft as well as Irving Samuel.  Jean-Claude Poitras is the recipient of numerous design awards, the Order of Canada and the subject of a retrospective at the McCord Museum of Montreal.
