This is a wonderful vintage 50s era ladies suit made of an excellent quality grey wool fabric by Hardy Amies. The jacket is made in typical 50s style with a tapered waist and slightly padded shoulders. It does up with 3 matching plastic buttons down the front. It has a faux pocket detailing. It is fully lined with the Hardy Amies name imprinted on the lining.
The skirt is also fully lined and features an interesting double click pleat which is off to the side, very interesting placement. It does up with a side metal zipper and a metal fastener.

A classic suit with excellent tailoring from none other than Hardy Amies who was awarded a Royal Warrant as official dressmaker to Queen Elizabeth in 1955, he gave up the warrant in 1990 in order to allow younger designers the opportunity to create designs for her.
In 1967 he designed the costumes for Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.
