This is a stunning 20s era coat that was meant to be worn over an evening dress. The pattern is definitely influenced by art deco geometric design. The piece is made in a below the knee length, open at the front with no closures. It has bell shaped sleeves that are ruched at the top from the elbow to the cuff. It has a small hood-like draped piece at the back of the neckline. The piece is studded with rhinestones in a circular patterning and along the open front edge and hemline. The rhinestones are studded into the fabric and you can see the brass backing on the interior side of the fabric. There is no label.
The jacket is being posed with a yellow 20s slip underneath with a 20s net slip over that - neither piece is included with the jacket, but it demonstrates that the jacket probably could be used as a dress with the application of a few hooks and eyes. Or, you could simply wear this over a simple black dress or with a camisole and silk pants - sure to make impression however you use it.
No size is indicated, but this should fit a medium to large size - please note the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 16" across shoulder seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 23" long
Bust: 38" around, fully closed, but if left to hang open, could accommodate a larger size
Waist: 38", again, fully closed
Length: 43" long
This jacket looks like it saw little use and was well stored over the years. The only defect is a small pinhead sized hole in the chiffon at the right upper back, visible in the last photo, very minor.
This is an easy to wear piece - quite spectacular rhinestone studding, absolutely gorgeous from the Great Gatsby Era.
