1950s Continental Rhinestone Brooch Large Cabochon Center

$40.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a gorgeous vintage 50s rhinestone brooch signed Continental on its back.

Continental Jewellery was founded in 1943 and was based in Montreal. They were the principal competition to Sherman, which was also based in Montreal. Although they were more modestly priced compared to Sherman, their quality was still excellent, although, in general, their pieces contained fewer stones. Because of their competitive pricing, they grew to be the largest Canadian suppliers of rhinestone jewelry during the 1950s.

This brooch is made in a round shape and features a large round cabochon stone in its center. The stone has an amber undertone with an oil slick appearance depending on how the light hits it. The cabochon stone is surrounded by citrine colored rhinestones, then by bronze/brown colored baguette rhinestones and finally by citrine rhinestones around the exterior. The signature is within a round plaque on the underside. The setting is gold toned.s The brooch measures 2" in diameter. It is in very good condition with no wear or repairs, but some foil discoloration is noticeable under the baguette stones in places, under strong lighting - under normal viewing this is not noticeable at all.

This is a nice quality brooch...interesting large cabochon and pretty color...
