This is a Butterfly pendant lamp, designed by Lars Schioler for Hoyrup Denmark. The lamp is made of a type of pliable plastic with intersecting sections supported by metal wire. It is fitted with a Leviton socket and wire that although being old, probably replaced a European standard socket - you can see in the photos that the socket is not screwed into the round centre of the frame, so even though it supports the lamp, it is not as stable. The wire measures 172 in length and has an in-line switch, aka “cord switch, for turning the lamp on or off. The lamp displays very well but has sustained three damaged areas over the years - a crack to one of the top points, a smaller crack and missing piece to the end of one of the bottom points and a bent point at the bottom (see last three close-up photos). The lamp measures 18 in diameter and 14 1/2 in height.
Despite the damage, this is an iconic mid century piece of Danish design. Schioler designed the Butterfly lamp in 1968 and it enjoyed popularity into the 1970s. Sold “as is at a reduced price that takes the damage into account.
