Antique Polychrome Plate 1862 Transferware HK Puiz Browne Illustration

This is a lovely English earthenware plate featuring an illustration by Hablot Knight Puiz Browne (1815-1882), best known as a friend of Charles Dickens and illustrator for ten different Dickens novels, including Pickwick, David Copperfield, Bleak House and others. He also illustrated for other authors as well as for Punch magazine. This plate appears to be transfer printed and possibly hand finished. The decoration features a classical Greek influenced scene of a woman with young boy. The marking on the underside of the plate is half worn, but the British registry mark dates it to 1862. The text would have originally read The Drawings for this Dinner Service Are By Phiz H.K. Browne. The plate measures 9 1/8 in diameter and is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or pronounced wear - a bit of yellowing to the underside, but this be bleached, although it is so minor, I wouldnt bother. Very attractive display plate - nice wall or cabinet decor.
