This is a wonderful chromolitho print issued by Vanity Fair in 1884, original, not a reproduction - it is accompanied by a separate text page that describes the subject of the caricature. Vanity Fair magazine published coloured caricatures of famous figures in British society from 1869 until 1914. The caricatures were primarily by artists Spy (Leslie Ward) and Ape (Carlos Pellegrini) but also by others. This one was by Ape (Carlos Pellegrini) and is of Police Inspector E. Denning, who became the House of Commons Inspector. The print measures 10 3/8 by 15 while the image area measures 7 3/8 by 12 3/8. It is in very clean condition, and will make a a fun display piece when framed. The print will be delivered rolled in a box - should you require it flat, please let me know, but delivery uncharges may be necessary. Wonderful print - nice caricature of a 19th c British police officer!
