Antique Watcombe Pottery Torquay Teapot Christopher Dresser Design
$150.00
Brand Etsy
This is an antique individual sized teapot that is purported to have originally been designed by Christopher Dresser as part of a breakfast set for Watcombe pottery of Torquay. The green iridescent glaze is the selling point for this piece - it is quite amazing. This would have been a later production piece as the bottom reads Watcombe Torquay Made in England - the Made in England only began to appear on English wares from 1891 onwards and Dresser would have designed the original, probably during the 1870s. The piece measures 3 3/4 in height to the top of the finial and 6 1/2 in length from the back of the handle to the tip of the spout. It has a capacity of 1 cup and weighs 14 oz, It is in very good condition - there is some roughness around the interior rim, but this is minor (see last close-up photo).
This is a beautiful little object - worth the price for the glaze alone..
