This is a set of First Edition My Travelship books consisting of three volumes - Little Pictures of Japan, Tales Told in Holland and Nursery Friends From France. All three books were edited by Olive Beaupre Miller and the Little Pictures of Japan was illustrated by Katharine Sturges - the other two books were illustrated by Maud and Miska Petersham. All three were published by The Bookhouse for Children publishing house of Chicago in 1925, 1926 and 1927 respectively. The Petershams are credited with being highly influential in the evolution of childrens books as we know them today - they worked together for 50 years and produced more than 120 books and are known for their technical excellence and use of colour. The Little Pictures of Japan book is filled with coloured illustrations by Sturges, who is also a highly regarded illustrator, each accompanied by a Japanese hokku or haiku poem, Each book consists of 192 pages plus endleafs and pictorial board cover and measures 11 1/4 by 8 3/8. The Little Pictures of Japan book is in fine condition with no pronounced wear and very clean inside - even the insert explaining how to open a book is present in all three books. This book is rarely seen in this condition. The other two books are in near fine condition - the Nursery Friends From France book has a slight bit of toning at the bottom of the front cover as well as a corner bump at the bottom front cover and slight separation at page 144 (very minor) while the Tales Told in Holland has a tiny surface scratch and a couple of surface creases and small scuffs to the centre illustration. Otherwise, they both are very clean and are very nice copies.
