Vintage 1940s Hostess Pyjamas NOS Asian Pattern Lounging Pajamas Size L 42

This is an unused, new old stock (NOS) pair of lounging pajamas / pyjamas, acquired from the estate of former owners of a Chinese gift shop that was operating in Chinatown from the 1940s until 1990.  The set consists of a brocade jacket top that is woven with motifs consisting of Chinese flora, people and pagodas, and with black satin pants with matching bottom trim to the top.  The pattern is in tones of pink, green, yellow and black against a pink satin background.  The jacket has padded shoulders, Asian collar and closes with four frog type closures down the front.  It has a pocket built into either front side.  It cinches at the waist with a matching black satin sash belt.  The pants have an elasticized back waist and the legs have a wonderful flare to the cuff.  I have not steamed or pressed the set, so the original folds and creases are visible in the photos

Material:  Satin, most likely rayon.

Size:  Size 42 is indicated, and although this should fit a large size, please rely on the following measurements for fit taking the style of the garment into account:

Jacket:

Shoulders: 18” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeves: 23” long, including cuff

Sleeve Inseam: 17” long

Bust:  46”, taken under the arms

Waist: 40" around, uncinched - could be cinched to any waist desired (within limits)

Length:  26”, measured flat

Pants:

Waist:  28” unstretched, can stretch out to 36” max - comfortable fit would be somewhere in between

Leg Inseam: 25” long 

Length: 41", measured lying flat

Condition:  The set is in excellent condition as it is unused old store stock that has been well stored over the years.

This is a wonderful pair of hostess pyjamas - rare to find unused like this!
