This is a beautiful quality dress featuring white polka dots on a black background. I suspect that this was a 1930s full length dress that was re-modelled during the 1950s, although I can’t say for sure. I base that on the bodice style and the flare of the skirt - it looks to me that maybe the dress was shortened by cutting at the middle and constructing a waistline In any case, the dress is still wonderfully styled, with elbow length batwing sleeves that create a cape-like effect. It has a “jewel” neckline with long neck ties, a defined waistline and a full skirt that falls in drapes. It is lined above the waist only and closes at the back with a Conmatic metal zipper. .
Label: None - most likely seamstress made.
Fabric: Lovely quality silk, very soft to the touch with beautiful fall.
Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a medium size - please rely on the following exterior measurements for fit, taking the style of the dress into account (compare measurements with a similar dress that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment into account):
Sleeves: 18” from the shoulder/sleeve seam
Bust: Difficult to measure due to the batwing sleeve, but I estimate a 36”-38” bust
Waist: 30” around
Hips: 44” around, but meant to fall loosely
Hemline: 120” around - this illustrates the wide flare to the bottom
Overall Length: 44”, measured flat
Condition: In very good condition with no wear, tear, stains or or defect. This dress is very clean and looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years.
The silk is really lovely on this dress - very stylish with beautiful movement, definitely a quality piece!
