Vintage 1960s Fringed Twist Dance Dress Hugh Garber for Margo Canadian Design M

This is a very nice quality late 1960s era black dress by Canadian designer Hugh Garber for Margo (see bio further below). The dress is made in a sleeveless style with high waist and rows of fringe below the waistline, great for dancing the twist, or even the cha-cha or mambo! The dress has a V shaped neckline and a fairly deep V open back. The dress is in a below- the-knee length. I believe that the material is a rayon - this dress requires a robust fabric as the fringe adds weight, plus if one is shaking one’s thing, it has to hold up under stress. The dress is fully lined in black acetate. Again, as mentioned, this dress has some weight to it, very nice quality.
Label: Hugh Garber for Margo Montreal Made in Canada. Hugh Garber worked with Italian designer Patrick de Barentzen in Rome during the mid-60s, returning to Canada to work with Margo Dress in 1968. He remained with Margo until the mid-70s. The lack of a CA identification number on this dress dates it pre-1973, but this looks to me to be more circa 1968-69 than later.
Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a medium size -please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Bust: 35”-36” around, taken under the arm openings
Waist: 28”-29” around, taken at the high waist
Hips: 36” around
Length: 43”, measured flat to the bottom of the fringe
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear or staining. It needs a hook loop and snap at the back - I’m not replacing these as you may want to position them for optimal fit. This dress looks like it saw moderate use and was well stored over the years.
This is a wonderful shimmy dress from the 1960s - very cute, great for a party!
