Vintage 1960s Marjorie Hamilton LBD Black Velvet Cocktail Dress S M
$120.00
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a simple, easy to wear, little black dress that dates to the 1960s. It was made by Marjorie Hamilton of Vancouver, who, by the mid-60s, had one of the largest dress factories in Vancouver. She started her business by producing lingerie during the 1940s and slowly grew her business by adding dresses, skirts and blazers to her product line, eventually selling her business in 1985 (information courtesy of Jonathan Walford, Canadian fashion historian).
The dress is made in a sleeveless, form accenting, shift style. It has two short shoulder straps, squared neckline, lower squared back and a below the knee length. The fabric is a very soft cotton velvet in a medium weight, very nice quality.
Sizing: No size is indicated, but according to my measurements, this should fit a small to medium size - please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Bust: 34” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 27” around
Hips: 36” around
Overall length: 38", measured flat from the top of the straps to the hemline
Condition: It is in very good, clean condition with no wear, tear, holes, stains or odors. This dress has been very well cared for and stored over the years.
This is a very nice dress - it always strikes me how much better made and how they used such nice fabrics compared to today - great LBD to add to your wardrobe!
