This is a wonderful 1960s era custom tailored men’s suit made in a charcoal grey wool fabric with light gold toned pinstripes. The jacket has pronounced padded shoulders, high set medium width lapels, a three button closure and has a rounded cutaway at the bottom front opening. The sleeves have two buttons at the cuff. There is a flapped pocket at either side and a pocket at the left chest. The jacket has a double vent at the back that measures 9” in height. It is half lined in a rayon fabric with a satin striped pattern. It has two interior pockets. The pants have a flat front (no pleats), high set slant pockets at the front, two pockets at the back, and a leg that tapers slightly to the bottom with no cuff. There are adjustment tabs at either side.
Age: Although it is faded and difficult to read, the tailor’s label dates the suit to 1967
Label: Canterbury Exclusive Tailored Clothes Montreal
Sizing: Because this is custom tailored, no size is indicated, but this should fit a medium size, probably a US size 38 - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the fabric and the cut of the garment into consideration):
Jacket:
Shoulders: 17” across shoulder seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 25” from shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 16 3/4” long
Chest: 42” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 41”, around
Overall length: 31”, measured flat
Pants:
Waist: 36” with the adjustment tabs a the larger sizing - there is a bit of fabric at the back that could be let out if needed
Length: 42”
Leg Inseam: 29” - there is 2 1/2” of extra fabric inside the cuff should you need more length
Condition: This suit is in very good condition with no wear, tear, stains or odours - the rubberized anti-slip band inside the waist is dried up but this is normal for an old suit like this. In addition, for some reason, the right should seems a bit more padded than the left, but I don’t think that this is apparent when the jacket is being worn. Otherwise, the suit is clean looks like it saw little use and was well stored over the years.
This is a quality custom tailored suit - nice mid-60s style!
