This is a wonderful Mexican jacket that would have been bought by a tourist as a souvenir. The souvenir Mexican jacket was popular right after WWII and was so in demand that one could buy it from boutiques in Southern California. This Mexican jacket is made in red wool with wool embroidery featuring motifs commonly associated with Mexico on the front and a dancing couple on the back. This jacket is embroidered with crewel stitching and appliqués with some rhinestones applied to the couple. The jacket has a pocket applied to either side and is unlined. It has no closures.

Sizing: No size is indicated, but this Mexican jacket should fit a small size - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the wool into consideration:
Shoulders: 14 1/2” across seam-to-seam

Sleeve Inseam: 17” long
Bust: 37” around, taken under the arms, with a normal gap at the opening

Condition: It is in clean condition with only a couple of small holes. There is a pinhead hole at the upper left back (see close-up photo) but unseen in the photo there are a few frays around the pinhead hole, visible with lighting behind the jacket, but not visible under normal viewing, fairly minor, but you might want to apply an iron patch to reinforce the area. Also, visible in the last close-up photo is a small hole near the hemline where the crewel edging is missing a few stitches. Otherwise, this Mexican jacket looks great and was well cared for and stored over the years.
This is a wonderful 40s era Mexican jacket!
