This is a wonderful quality vintage 60s ball gown or evening dress. This ball gown is made with short sleeves and has an empire waist with the bodice, upper back and sleeves entirely decorated with embroidered flower shapes, each studded with a rhinestone is its centre. The rest of the top of the ball gown is decorated with faux pearls, melon shaped metal beads, seed shaped beads and sequins. It has a boat or bateau neckline, and is cut to flare out to the bottom. This ball gown is fully lined in pale yellow viscose and does up the back with a nylon zipper. It is made in an ankle length
Label: Ensemble Shop Eaton’s. During the 50s and 60s, Canadian department stores would have a boutique within the store that carried higher end fashion and catered to a wealthy clientele. After WWII, European markets had dried up due to the devastation suffered from the war, so Paris design houses found export markets, such as Canada. Canadian retailers would buy haute couture for their customers every season. The Ensemble Shop was such a boutique within a store and its competitors in Montreal would have been the Salon Vendome at Simpsons, Le Petit Salon at Dupuis Freres and the Fur Salon at Ogilvy’s and Holt Renfrew.
Sizing: There is no size indicated on this ball gown and although it should fit a medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 15 1/2” across seam to seam
Bust: 35” around
Empire waist: 30”
Real waist: 31” around
Hips: 36”, around
Length: 52”, measured flat
Condition: This ball gown is in very good condition with no wear, tear, soiling, staining or odour, however the hem has been poorly done - I would have this re-done.
This is a striking 60s beaded silk ball gown - very nice quality, gorgeous colour and decoration!
