Vintage 70s Blue Velvet Maxi Dress Split Bell Sleeve

This is a lovely quality early 70s era blue velvet dress that would make a wonderful winter velvet bridesmaid dress.  

This dress is made in an ankle length, has a sweetheart neckline edged in rhinestones and has bell shaped sleeves that are split downwards from the rhinestone bands positioned above the elbow.  The dress is cut with an empire waist with a fitted true waist.  It closes with a nylon zipper at the back and is fully lined in blue acetate.  Note that the lining at the bottom of the neckline was stitched in place, probably to inhibit the rhinestones from contact with the skin - it could be removed if desired. 

Age: very early 1970s, perhaps late 60s

Sizing: Size 14 is indicated but this is a vintage sizing.  Although this should fit a medium to large size, please note the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders:  16” across

Sleeves:  28” to the lowest point of the cuff

Bust: 39” around, taken under the arm pits 

Empire waist:  32” around

True waist: 31”  around

Hips:  37” around

Overall length: 59”, measured flat

Condition:  It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, staining or odour - this dress looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years. 

This dress has an Elizabethean look to it and would make a wonderful velvet bridesmaid dress, or just a lovely dress for Christmas or other occasion!
