Vintage 80s Floral Lame Dress Serge & Real Montreal Couture

This is a vintage 80s era dress made by Montreal couturier Serge & Real - please read further below for more information on them.  This Serge & Real dress is made of an absolutely gorgeous violet silk chiffon that is printed with colourful flowers that are woven with gold metallic thread - a type of lamé.  The chiffon is over a royal blue silk base fabric.  It is made with large squared padded shoulders, typical of 80s fashion.  It has a jewel neckline, a dropped waist with a skirt that is constructed with three flounces, and a matching belt that cinches the true waist.  The sleeves are unlined and in a wrist length with zippered cuffs.  The dress does up the back with a series of covered buttons and a zipper at the lower back. 

Label: Serge & Real Montreal. Serge & Real (Serge Senecal and Real Bastien) has been in business since 1972, and has dressed Canadian high society since then, including the wife of a former Canadian prime minister, a former Canadian governor general, Quebec entertainers and wives of captains of industry.  Both Serge & Real apprenticed at Parisian design houses during the 1960s and decided to open a couture business in Montreal at a time when pret a porter was cutting deeply into couture.  Serge & Real expanded their operation to Palm Beach and New York as well as maintaining their Westmount atelier before retiring in 2014 after 51 years in the business. Their creations originally cost many thousands of dollars.  

Sizing: No size is indicated as this custom made, and although this Serge & Real dress should fit a medium size, please note the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 15” across seam-to-seam

Sleeves: 22” from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 18 1/2” long

Bust: 36” around, taken under the arms

Waist: 28”

Hips: 36”

Overall length: 43”

Condition: It is in excellent condition with no wear, tear, stains or odour. This Serge & Real dress looks like it saw maybe a one time use and was very well kept over the years. 

This is a super quality dress - Serge & Real produces only couture, so this is a hand made dress with a lot of attention to detail.  This was a very expensive dress to buy new.  Exceptional silk - stunning!
