This is a vintage 80s Karl Lagerfeld dress made of black silk with black silk chiffon jacket top.  The dress is made in a spaghetti strap shoulder sleeveless slip form with pleated skirt.  The top of this Karl Lagerfeld dress is covered by the black silk chiffon jacket, which fastens only with a fuchsia coloured sash that goes through the bottom of the jacket. .  The dress is fully lined in a black silk, and closes with a nylon zipper up the back.  The zipper has a stay inserted along it for added support.  There is a slit at either side of the bottom that allows for movement.

Label:  Karl Lagerfeld Made in France.  This style of label was used during the 1980s.

Retailer label:  Made in France Holt Renfrew Boutique.  Holt Renfrew is a Canadian department store that sells only designer fashion and luxury goods.

Sizing: French size 42 is indicated on this Karl Lagerfeld dress, which is equivalent to a US size 12, so this should fit a large size. This Karl Lagerfeld dress is in very clean condition with no noted wear, tear, stains, odour or other defect.  It looks to have seen little use and was well cared for and stored over the years.

This is a lovely quality vintage Karl Lagerfeld dress, really a nice example of Lagerfeld design, still contemporary looking and easy to wear!

Karl Lagerfeld is a most prolific designer and an icon of the fashion industry.  He began his career at Pierre Balmain at the age of 17 in 1955.  He designed two collections a year for Jean Patou from 1958 until 1963.  He began designing for Fendi in 1963 and became head designer at Chloe in 1965, staying there until 1983 when he became the head designer and director of Chanel.  Karl Lagerfeld is credited with having revived the Chanel brand and remains there to this day.  He started his own Karl Lagerfeld label in 1984.  He designed collections for Chloe from 1992 until 1996 and still designed for his own label, for Chanel and fur collections for Fendi as well.
