This is a vintage Astrakhan/Broadtail fur coat, dating to the 1960s. Astrakhan derives its name from a city in southern Russia, but it basically is still Broadtail. The coat is made in a short style, very cute and very 60s. It does up with a single metal loop and snap closure at the middle front and also has a loop and hook that closes the neckline - I’ve posed the coat with both the neckline open and closed. It has notched lapels and above the wrist length sleeves, typical of 60s styles as it was important to show off one’s gloves. It has a patch pocket at either front side that has a diagonally cut decorative flap and there is a decorative belt at the back that has a large button affixed at its centre. It is fully lined in bronze taffeta fabric. The original owner’s name is embroidered onto the lining.
