From the 1990s here is a beautiful quality jacket that was made for Berwin & Wolff of Ebersberg, Bavaria, Germany. The jacket is made in a traditional “trachten” style, and really quite unusual as I couldn’t really find a similar one anywhere online, as it is printed with various Bavarian scenes that appear to date to the late 19th century or early 20th century. I’ve shown a number of close-ups in the photos, and variously you can see a soldier with his sweetheart, a family with a gentleman either a customer or salesman, Liederhosen clad Bavarian men at a dancehall, a woman at a spinning wheel and other ladies at work. The edge along the opening, the cuffs and bottom is finished in green woven wool. It has padded shoulders, no collar, and is made in a cardigan style, closing at the front with six silver toned buttons that are embellished with a raised design. There is a pocket built into either front side. The jacket is fully lined in 100% acetate.
Label: Berwin & Wolff Tracht / Folklore / Landhaus
Material label: 50% schurwolle (virgin wool) / 50% alpaka (alpaca)
Sizing: The sweater label reads German size 40, which should be equivalent to a US size 12, and although this should fit a large size, please note the following measurements, taking the style of the jacket into account:
Shoulders: 16 1/2” across from one shoulder/sleeve seam to the other shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 23” long from the shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve inseam: 13 1/2”
Bust: 45” around, taken under the armpits
Bottom: 40” around
Overall length: 26 1/2”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very clean condition with no wear, tear, staining or other defect - this jacket looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years.
This is a rather unique piece - wonderful colored print on a traditional style jacket!
