This is a superior quality vintage sable fur jacket made in a medium brown color. It is made with Canadian Sable Marten, probably sourced from the Hudson’s Bay area of Canada as it was sold at the Hudson’s Bay department store. Canadian sable of this type is considered practically equal in softness and quality to Russian sable. The jacket is made in a classic 1960s style with a shorter body and wide rounded collar that can be worn either up or down (see photos for different poses). It has rounded shoulders and 3/4 length sleeves that allow one to display one’s evening gloves. It has a hook and loop at the neckline, the only closure. It is lined in a foliate lace fabric. The original owner’s name is embroidered on the lining, but could be removed if desired.
Age: 1960s
Label: Hudson’s Bay Company Incorporated 2nd May 1670. Hudson’s Bay started as a fur trading company during the very early days of North American settlement, so you can expect a quality fur when you see their label.
Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a small to medium size - please rely on the following exterior measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the fur into account (compare measurements with a similar fur jacket that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment into account):
Shoulders: 17” across approximated
Sleeves: 15”
Bust: 38” around, taken under the arms
Bottom: 38” around
Overall length: 19”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no splits or tears and the fur appears to be fresh and full - this probably was well stored over the years.
This is a beautiful quality vintage sable jacket - very sophisticated 1960s styling!
