This is a vintage ball gown that was commissioned by a very wealthy lady who was attending one of the important balls held during the Carnival of Venice in Italy. The lady purportedly paid $15,000 to have this made, and given the quality of the fabric, this would not surprise me. I did not get the mask, but this dress comes with a matching cape-like hooded coat. The dress is sleeveless, has a shimmery lamé type fabric above the waist and a quilted fabric below the waist that is printed with an abstract floral pattern and infused with a silver metallic thread, really high quality. The neck is decorated with beading and silk flowers. The evening coat is made of the same quilted fabric with the same shimmery material at the top and hood and which is also inset at the sides and back of the piece, forming a wide pleat down the back and a quilted yoke at the upper back. It has no closures and simply wraps around the front. The sleeves are made in a raglan style. The coat is decorated around the shoulders and right cuff with feathers - the feathers are missing from the left cuff and possibly some missing from the other areas, so you might want to rearrange these in any case.
Color: Black with red, beige, yellow and green
Material: Exceptional quality quilted lamé
Sizing: No size is indicated, but it should fit a medium size - please rely on the following measurements for fit:
Dress:
Bust: 36” around
Waist: 31” around
Hips: Full - 50” around, meant to fall loosely
Hemline: 134” around
Length: 61”, measured flat
Coat:
Sleeves: 28” long from the neck seam
Sleeve Inseam: 11 1/2”
Bust: 56” around, taken under the arms with a normal overlap - meant to fit loosely
Hemline: 180” around, with the insets fully extended
Overall length: 60”, measured flat
Condition: The dress has a partially open seam, very easy to mend, and the zipper is missing its pull. I am not replacing the zipper as you may want to alter the dress slightly in any case. Aside from the aforementioned missing feathers, the dress is in very clean, excellent condition as it only saw one use.
This is an exceptional piece, worth the price of the fabric alone - if you need to make an entrance, this would do it!
