This is a wonderful briefcase/attache case or satchel handbag that would have been used by an employee of the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), most likely a journalist. The briefcase dates to the 1970s, when things were a little less formal, and there was an affinity for artisan made leather goods. It is entirely made of leather with some riveting for attaching the handle and four metal “feet” at the bottom. All of the seams are made with leather lacing and probably a bit of glue - there is no sewing. The front flap is stamped with the CBC “gem” logo, used between 1974 and 1992 and the interior is stamped with the maker’s information “Fait a la main par Yvon Provost Montreal” (Hand Made by Yvon Provost Montreal) and with a number “1026”, maybe a type of serial or inventory number. This is a very well made piece - the handle is especially comfortable with leather lacing wrapped around it so that it conforms to the shape of the hand. The bag measures 16” in width, 13 1/2” in height, exclusive of its handle, and 3 1/2” in depth. It is in very good condition with a couple of small scuffs, really nothing pronounced and a red marker code on the interior that probably could be removed - this has been very well cared for over the years. There are no compartments on the interior, it is only one large space, and the front flap closes with two belts and metal buckles.
This is a wonderful quality bag and an interesting CBC collectible piece!
