This is a pair of vintage burgundy velvet stirrup pants made by “Escada by Margaretha Ley”. They are made in the style of ski pant with elasticized stirrups and zippered side pockets. The pants have been let out at the back (see last photo) and there are loops to accommodate a belt.
Label: Escada by Margaretha Ley Made in W. Germany. Escada was founded in 1976 by Margaretha Ley and her husband Wolfgang. Margaretha passed away in 1992 and had been the principle designer for Escada before her passing.
Color: Burgundy/maroon.
Material: 87% Cotton, 10% Viscose Rayon and 3% Elasthan
Sizing: German size 38 is indicated, which is equivalent to a US size 10. Please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the pants into account and noting that the pants have been let out at the back (see last close-up photo):
Waist: 30” around, uncinched by belt
Hips: 36” around
Leg inseam: 30” exclusive of the stirrup
Overall length: 42", measured flat
Condition: Aside from being let out, these pants in very good condition with no wear, tear, stains or odors. It looks like they have seen very little use and were well stored over the years. You could always easily have these brought back in to the original sizing.
This is a very nice pair of velvet pants...excellent quality by a very good design house at a time when Margaretha Ley was the designer......
