This is a striking marabou feather jacket made for Lillie Rubin. From the style of the label, I believe that this dates to the 1970s, probably disco era - I can see this making an entrance at Studio 54! The piece features a fabulous violet pink magenta colour, so bright that my camera had a difficult time dealing with it. The feathers have the fineness of down - marabou originally was taken from a certain type of stork, but being a protected species, feathers have been derived from the bottom feathers of white turkeys, sometimes ostrich. The piece is lined in pink acetate fabric. It has no closures.
Sizing: Size 12 is indicated, so although this should fit a large size, please note the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 19” across, shoulder seam to shoulder seam
Sleeves: 21” long
Sleeve inseam: 15”
Bust: 40” around, taken under the arms, with a normal gap at the opening
Waist: 36” around, with a normal gap at the opening
Length: 24”, measured flat
Retailer label: Lillie Rubin. Lillie Rubin, founded in Miami in 1946, was a specialty shop that offered evening gowns and special occasion wear. They were bought by La Cache in 1990 and its stores converted to La Cache in 2006. (courtesy of the Vintage Fashion Guild label resource)
Condition: This is in very good condition - a bit of the acetate base fabric is visible at the bottom back, but this should be easy to correct. Otherwise, this looks to have been well cared for over the years.
This is a fantastic piece to dress up an evening dress - sure to make an impression!
