This is a striking vintage 1970s shocking pink velvet coat designed by Marielle Fleury for Rainmaster - Fleury is considered to have been one of the most influential Quebec designers and her designs are becoming quite sought after. The material is made of a soft cotton velvet and is fully lined in pink acetate. The coat is made in a relaxed trench style with wide rounded collar and lapel. It has a large patch pocket at either side, wrist length sleeves and closes with a single button at the waist and cinches with a matching sash belt. The skirt of the coat falls in a slight drape and has a below the knee length.
Label: Rainmaster by Marielle Fleury Made in Canada. Rainmaster was a trademark of Sport Togs, which hired Fleury in 1969 to design a line under her own name.
Sizing: The Repeat Order tag sizes the coat as a 12, but this is a vintage sizing, so please note the following measurements for fit, perhaps measuring a similar coat that you own for comparison:
Shoulders: 15 1/2” across
Sleeves: 23” long
Sleeve inseam: 16 1/2”
Bust: 39” around, allow extra room for fit
Waist: 34” around
Hips: 41” around
Length: 42 1/2”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced marking, wear, tear or stains - a couple of tiny marks to the left lapel, probably made by a brooch, very minor, and otherwise, this appears to have seen little use and was well cared for and stored over the years.
This is a wonderful coat in a striking pink colour - great acquisition for the Canadian fashion collector or just a very stylish and very colourful piece!
