This is a vintage controlled bubble glass bowl that was made in Murano, Italy, probably during the 1950s or 60s. Ive seen this bowl attributed to Alfredo Barbini, but I havent found any other supporting evidence. I have also seen examples with a twisted end like this one made by Fratelli Toso. The glass is made in a purple toned colour with bullicante (controlled air bubbles). It is made in a teardrop or shell-like form that is pulled and twisted at the end. The underside has a polished pontil mark with a centre depression. The bowl measures 8 1/4 by 5 3/4 with a height of 3. It is fairly substantial, weighing a little under 2 lbs. It is in very good condition with the exception of a pinhead sized clear within the coloured bowl, visible in the photos, and some white marks along on side that appear to be in the glass, but there is an impact mark (see last close-up photo). The defects look much worse in the photos than in actual life under normal viewing. Otherwise, no other chips, cracks, or wear. Lovely object, pretty colour and form - nice table accent!
