This is a vintage early 1960s Irene Galitzine skirt suit set made in a light green colour. Princess Irene Galitzine was of aristocratic Russian birth, but her family fled Russia for Italy during the revolution. She worked with fashion house of Sorelle Fontana during WWII and established her own salon in 1946. She was named the Designer of the Year in 1962 by the Italian fashion press is famous for introducing the palazzo pyjamas in 1960. She dressed some of the world’s most famous women, including Sofia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Onassis, Audrey Hepburn, Greta Garbo, the Duchess of Windsor and many more. The jacket to this Irene Galitzine skirt suit has a wide V neckline with collar, elbow length sleeves and has a V shape defined waist. It closes with a fine tooth metal zipper at the back. The skirt is made in a knee length and has a front panel doubled over the front of the skirt. Both pieces of this Irene Galitzine skirt suit are fully lined and hand sewn finished. The jacket is weighted in the hemline and the suit is beautifully constructed and finished.
