Vintage 1960s Mitzou Madrid Suede Leather Coat Spanish Couture

This is a vintage 1960s Mitzou Madrid suede leather coat.  Mitzou was founded in 1959, located at 2T Serrano Street (Madrid’s equivalent to Carnaby Street) and owned by Jose Izquierdo and his wife Micheline, aka Mitzou, who was responsible for designing the clothing that they sold.  They had primarily an American customer list, including actresses Rita Hayworth, Natalie Wood, Jean Shrimpton and Pamela Tiffin as well as Claudia Cardinale and sold through Bonwit Teller and Bergdorf Goodman.  (with many thanks to my colleague at the vintage fashion guild for providing much of this information)

This 1960s Mitzou Madrid suede leather coat is made in with a superior quality dyed deep cranberry red suede, very soft and pliable.  It is made in a classic 60s style with shirt type collar and four black glass beaded button front.  The sleeves each have three buttons at the cuff identical to the front closure.  The back of the coat has box pleats to the skirt - a beautiful feature of the coat. The interior of the coat is fully lined in cranberry coloured viscose or acetate.  

Sizing: No size is indicated, and although this 1960s Mitzou Madrid suede leather coat should fit a small size, please rely on the following measurements for fit:

Shoulders: 17” across seam-to-seam

Sleeves: 21 1/2” long - note that this is a 60s length that allows one to show off their gloves

Sleeve Inseam: 14 1/2” long

Chest: 38”, taken under the arms

Waist: 36” around

Overall length: 38”, measured flat at the back from the neck seam to the hemline

Condition: This 1960s Mitzou Madrid suede leather coat is in very good condition with no marking to the suede, no pronounced wear, tear or odour.  There may be some very light soiling typical of suede, but really nothing of note.  The buttons hang loosely out of necessity and were originally made like that, but it looks like maybe the top button was re-secured, not important, but mentioned in the interest of full disclosure.

This is a gorgeous quality suede 1960s Mitzou Madrid suede leather coat…..Mitzou leather is collected and sought after…the Spanish made exceptional leather goods, but Mitzou applied these quality leathers to her high fashion designs!
