This is a vintage 1950s Pierre Balmain scarf made of surah silk.  This vintage 1950s Pierre Balmain scarf features an floral print rendered in a post-impressionist style.  The scarf has a hand rolled and finished edge.  It is signed “Pierre Balmain Paris” within the border at the bottom right.

Age: late 1950s to early 1960s

Colour:  tones of orange, yellow, ochre, brown and tan against black

Label: No label, but printed “Pierre Balmain Paris” on the scarf.  Pierre Balmain apprenticed with Molyneux and started his own fashion house in 1945.  His name became synonymous with structured design that still conveyed a simple elegance.

Material: Surah silk - very soft with a twill weave, often used by high end fashion houses for scarves

Size: 29 1/2” by 30 1/2”

Condition: This vintage 1950s Pierre Balmain scarf is in very good condition with no noted wear, tear, staining, soiling or odour.
